Mission/Purpose Statement of the Sub-Committees of the 712+ Virtual Telephone Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous and the Regional PI/PO Committees of the Virtual Region of Overeaters Anonymous
With men comprising 13% of the membership of OA as a result of a WSO study, we are committed to “Carrying the Message” to men inside and outside of OA. We believe that men in AA may be the primary audience to increase the number of men in OA.
This strategy is consistent with OA’s WSBC 2019 goal of “Growing Our Membership Worldwide”.
In addition we are committed to providing men in OA with more resources to help their personal recovery. This program began on October 21, 2018 when 12 men committed to go through the 15 week Skype Step Study based on the 12 Step Workshop and Study Guide.
Also, we are expanding the use of the oamen.org website to be used as an additional resource for men.
We have created a Men’s Flyer indicating the Men’s Focus Virtual meetings.
We have created a diverse international Advocacy Group consisting of men and women to help us “Carry the Message” to men inside and outside of OA. We invite you to join that group by emailing Jack P. at email@example.com.
We also have a Men’s Service Team leading our effort.
Here is a brief list of some of the other things we are working on:
1. Expanding the use of the oamen.org website
a. Includes over 80 podcasts of men speakers from our Tuesday night Men’s Focus Meeting, which has over 300 men in its Google Group and over 270 men on its Outreach List.
b. The Men’s Flyer is also available on the web site.
2. Exploring new ways of making contributions to OA at the Virtual Region and directly to WSO through texting, PayPal, Venmo etc.
3. Discussing the possibility of translating the current men’s pamphlet “To the Man Who Wants to Stop Compulsive Overeating, Welcome” and the Men’s Flyer into Spanish.
4. We are investigating having a men’s phone hotline.
5. Discussing the possibility of having a men’s Sub-Committee of the WSBC PI/PO Committee.
6. Encouraging women in OA to help greet new men coming into OA by giving them the Men’s Flyer and referring them to the oamen.org web site.
We welcome your support and suggestions. You may contact anyone one of us by email.
